Classroom issues like bullying, disrespect, cheating, tardiness, and drug abuse often result from missing character values. These hinder child development, academics, and safety, eroding trust. Character First Education is embraced by 100,000+ educators, parents, and youth. It empowers behavior goals, promotes positivity, and nurtures character-centric culture for better education.

While character formation begins at home, we believe everyone who interacts with a child or teen has an opportunity to teach or encourage positive social values.
Our Character Education Programme is designed to assist teachers, school leaders and parents in developing the character of students and young people. With a portfolio of about thirty (30) essential traits, we are dedicated to teaching students and young people how to become responsible citizens and ethical leaders. Below are snapshots of some of our traits.
"If we are supporting our students to acquire knowledge and skills, then we should also educate them to have the right character so that they can better support our nation to develop faster. This is a good initiative, and I want to commend the Kofi A. Tawiah Foundation for starting this. I call on all schools to embrace this initiative and incorporate it into their school culture"
“I was introduced to the character education initiative about three years ago, and it has really helped the school. Our children are really on point about the character traits. I will urge every school to get on board with this initiative”.
“As a school, this is a very good opportunity for us. Having teenagers to train, we believe that when they (learners) get their character right, all other things will follow. The work being done by the Kofi A. Tawiah Foundation in terms of character building is very good, and we will recommend that this initiative be rolled out throughout Ghana. ”.
“Deyoungster’s International School believes in raising leaders with strong character and that made us embrace the character education programme with so much enthusiasm. The programme has impacted the teaching and learning process in the school. This opportunity brought to us through the Kofi A. Tawiah Foundation should be extended to as many Ghanaian children as possible so we can raise leaders or citizens with strong character”.
"We were invited to participate in the character education committee representing the parents. We’ve had a wonderful experience with the committee to help other parents to understand and appreciate what the program is seeking to achieve in the lives of our children. We saw the positive impact this program had on the children as we dealt with core traits like courage, responsibility, and gratefulness."
"The programme is a wonderful concept because civic education deals with orientation and re-orientation of character and values. I see the works of the Kofi A. Tawiah Foundation as complementary to our work at NCCE because we have a common goal of developing good citizens. I believe that with this particular programme, we are going to learn a few more techniques which will enhance the work that we are doing with the youths in this country."
In ICS, Character First Education provides the foundation for positive traits in the life for our learners and teachers. Our learners are conscious of the right thing to do and are committed in doing it.
When we talk about character, we mean the inward values that determine outward actions; the mental model used for making decisions; the moral compass that guides your choices; who we are when no one else is watching.
Many problems in today’s classroom can be traced to a lack of character, including bullying, disrespect, cheating, tardiness, vandalism, profanity, and drug abuse—which hinder childhood development, student achievement, school safety, and public confidence. That’s why more than 100,000 teachers, parents, and youth workers around the world have used Character First Education to help them define behavioral objectives, reinforce positive behaviors, and create a culture that values good character.
Character First began in 1992 as a leadership development program at Kimray Inc, an Oklahoma City-based manufacturing company. Every month, Kimray employees would study a different character trait and how it related to corporate values such as honesty, quality, safety, and service. It made such a difference in their workplace culture that in 1996, local school and police officials asked if Character First could be adapted to public education—and Character First Education was born. In 2012, Character First was acquired by Strata Leadership LLC, which offers a wider range of character-based programs for business, government, and public safety
